Paweł Pędzich
PhD Eng.
Paweł Pędzich graduated from the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography at Warsaw University of Technology in 1997, specializing in cartography. There, he received his doctoral degree in 2002 and his habilitation in 2008. Since 2003, he has been working at Warsaw University of Technology, Department of Cartography. From 2003 to 2015, he was working at the Military University of Technology in Warsaw (Wojskowa Akademia Techniczna) – first at the Faculty of Engineering, Chemistry and Technical Physics, then at the Civil Engineering and Geodesy. From 2008 to 2015, he served as the Head of the Department of Cartography at Warsaw University of Technology.
From 2008 to 2016, he was a member of the Rector’s Committee on Awards and Honors at Warsaw University of Technology, and the chairman of the diploma examination committee for Cartography. He has been the supervisor of over 90 engineer and master’s theses. Since 2004, he has been the Polish representative (as correspondent member) to the International Cartographic Association’s Commission on Map Projections. Since 2008, he has also been a member of the Polish National Committee for the International Cartographic Association.
A member of the Association of Polish Cartographers (2010–2015) where he served as the chairman of the peer tribunal until 2012. In 2012, he was on the editorial staff of Reports on Geodesy and Geoinformatics. He received scientific internships at the Polish Naval Academy in Gdynia [Akademia Marynarki Wojennej w Gdyni], at the institute of Navigation and Maritime Hydrography, as well as at the University of Stuttgart (the Institute of Geodesy). He also participated in training at Intergraph Corporation in Hunstville, Alabama, USA.
His scientific work covers the theory of map projection, planetary cartography, computer application development, and geographic information systems. He authored about 50 publications in scientific journals and the script for “Introduction to map projection” academic course.
